UWE duly recognizes a public concern regarding the outbreak of COVID-19 and the approaching AESOP 2020.

Based on the current information, the AESOP Congress will be held as scheduled. While the situation remains dynamic, both the World Health Organisation (WHO) and The Department of Health confirm that currently there is no reason to defer travel to the UK. Since the outbreak of the virus, approximately two months ago, there have been numerous international meetings held in Europe, including in the UK.

In light of the concerns and recent developments surrounding COVID-19, UWE urges everyone to keep themselves up to date on the latest reliable information, and to be aware of, and adhere to, travel recommendations from local and international health agencies. XXX also encourages all delegates to stay on top of any travel announcements that may impact their itinerary, such as flight cancelations and delays.

The current assessment by the ECDC of the risk associated with COVID-19 infection for people in the EU/EEA and UK is currently considered to be high. In Any Event is closely following the daily risk assessment, which can be found here: https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/current-risk-assessment-novel-coronavirus-situation

The latest travel advice from the WHO can be found here: https://www.who.int/ith/2019-nCoV_advice_for_international_traffic/en/

Additionally, UWE and In Any Event are putting increased hygiene measures in place ensuring there is access to hand sanitisers and hand washing facilities. There will be an increase in hygiene measures (adding sanitary soap dispensers and strengthening the cleaning of facilities) has already been implemented.

Recommended advice to delegates:

  • Frequently clean hands by using alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water

  • When coughing and sneezing cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue – throw tissue away immediately and wash hands

  • Avoid close contact with anyone who has fever and cough

  • If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing seek medical care early and share previous travel history with your health care provider

UWE & In Any Event continues to monitor the situation closely and will be updating the webpage and delegates with any new information accordingly.
